Beach Themed Decorating

A beach themed living room or bedroom is a fun and relaxing atmosphere that will never go out of style. Even small changes through the use of accents can transform your room into a tranquil scene. In the dead of winter, you'll still feel like you're in paradise when you step into your coastal or island-themed room.

For beach-themed accessories, look for those featuring seashells, sea life, and flip-flop sandals. These will instantly remind you of a trip to the beach. A combination of wall décor and a few pieces placed on tables or shelves around the room can change the whole look of the room without costing a fortune. If you do find pieces on the beach, such as seashells or driftwood, you'll need to make sure they are cleaned and sanitized before leaving them around in your room. Even if you are miles away from the ocean, you can still find accent pieces that will bring a waterside theme into your room.

A large print, photo, or wall hanging can immediately establish the theme of the room. It should be hung in a central location in the room, right at eye level. This is one of the easiest ways to begin the transformation of your beach-style room.

If you're ready to makeover the entire room with a beach theme, start by painting the walls. Light blue or a sandy tan color are both popular choices when you're trying to invoke a beach atmosphere. Palm trees, fish, and of course, a sunset will make any room feel like you're on vacation.

Use lots of natural materials, such as seashells, bamboo, linen, and cotton. Don't forget about lighting that will fit in with the beach theme you are trying to create. This means natural, light-colored shades. If you want to use a rug in the room, choose one in a natural tan color, to mimic a sandy beach. It is a much better choice to use an appropriately-colored rug than to attempt to spread loose sand in your room! If your beach-themed room is your bedroom, don't forget to select bedding to match the theme.

Hide any modern conveniences, like a stereo or television, in a cabinet covered in bamboo so that you can relax and unwind without any reminders of the modern world. The key to a successful beach themed room is to remove the clutter and simplify the room. The beach should be relaxing and open, not cramped and cluttered with too many things sitting around. Your beach-themed room will not seem so inviting if you have filled every available space with a piece of beach-themed décor; less is more, in this case.

Your room may turn out to be Hawaiian or tropical themed, or more like a coastal beach in a cooler climate, depending on the décor and color scheme you choose. Stick to light, breezy fabrics, light blue, and tan, with a few pops of bright color. With many bright colors, your room will take on a more exciting Hawaiian vibe rather than a tranquil beach.

Party themed "Keep out of the cold. Stay at the beach." with flamingos. Party ideas?

Okay, I am marketing supervisor for my company and we are having a party for lease renewals and the theme is "Keep out of the cold. Stay at the beach". They want to incorporate flamingos...

HOWEVER, they do not want to use any beach decorations.

I can find flamingos NO problem, but does anyone have any ideas on what type of decor I could use other than Hawaiian or beach themed??? PLEASE help me any way you can...

Perhaps a nautical theme that focuses on a sophisticated elements of boats, ocean, fishes and accessories.

This would have :
• Color scheme of blues, whites and khaki's...with red for an accent
• A captains wheel, globe, rustic map and other navigational devices
• A small model boat or boat in a jar
• The agenda for the party could be a "message in a bottle"
• Life Preservers could be a good addition to the theme
• Having the main boss be the captain and/or provide captian and skipper hats for everyone
• The flamingos will be a fun addition. Make a spot for people to have there photo with a group of them

Having a beach theme party can be sophisticated and fun!
