Digital Temperature Humidity
Bad idea to use a bathroom extraction fan in a Cooker hood.....?
Need some electrical advice...
The hood over the cooker in the kitchen is custom built, and I'm having great difficulty in finding a replacement extraction fan that fits. The only fans that will fit are bathroom or shower fans. Humidity is not a problem, but temperature is. These bathroom fans are recommended for use in temperatures not exceeding 40 degrees C.
While doing some light cooking today, I taped a digital thermometer near the ventilation hole, and it went up to 37 deg C.
I'd like an extra margin of safety than this, so I'm slow to purchase a bathroom fan.
My only other option is to use a Sauna extraction fan, but I'm wondering if the motor bearings in these are designed to be run at e.g. above 90 deg C ....
What would you do? (The fan will be mounted 38 inches directly above the hob). Thanks.
Reply to mike:- the hole is diameter 17cm. (Maximum depth of the exhaust spigot is 15cm). The flange at the front of the fan can't exceed 19cm x 18cm. Cheers
Regardless of its size, a bathroom exhaust fan is not manufactured to handle the grease from cooking. It would soon gum-up and could catch fire from overheating. You need to check with the manufacturer of your range hood to get a proper replacement or consider replacing the entire hood. Trying to make a bad substitution could risk your safety and home.
