Horse and Rider Costume Ideas?

Every year, my lesson stable does a horse and rider costume contest, and this year is the first year I'll be competing. I've heard that past competitors have done a range of outfits from an evil fairy to Peter Pan and Tinkerbell. I'll most likely be entering with a chestnut mare named Chiquita. She's small, about 14.2 hh and she has a blaze and two hind socks. I was thinking of dressing her up as an Indian horse (With feathers tied to her bridle and reins,painted hand prints on her rump, etc.) while riding her bareback. Can you give me any more ideas on how to make it look better, as I don't have many ideas of what I can do with her. Also, if you could give me any tips to what I should wear, that would be great. Thanks for your help!

Google Native American horses for more ideas. You could do a warhorses paint (circle around the eye, handprint on her hindquaters, etc.) If you're good at braiding or know someone who is, you could do several types of braids or braid / rubber band feathers into her hair. If allowed, you could enter bareback or with a bareback pad. I'd personalize the bareback pad or just a pad in general, make it look like a rug or fake leather, etc. You could use Twinkle's glitter spray/hoof nail polish/gel and spray give her some glittery white spots, or just use the brown colors to make her sparkle. the gel you can use to stick up parts of her main and tail if you don't braid, or if you have parts unbraided.

As for you, I'd research native american wear. A feather behind your ear or in your hair (on your helmet..) and tan or tan leather pants and apancho should do it. You could also go look up indian outfits in a costume store and change it to suite you.

You could stick a dreamcatcher on her or you somwhere. You could get a big on and wear it around your neck, make a chain of them and drape they around your horse, or put a large one around her neck.

Suggestions for room? Forest fairy look?

Well, i've painted the room green, and i've bought some wall stickers to go on, they're like flowers and branches with some butterflies.
I've also bought some fairy lights to give it a magical sort of look.
What else could I buy that would give it a sort of magical/fairy forest look?
My parents are adopting a 14 year old girl who likes reading books of a fairy magical nature, so I thought I'd give them a hand by doing the room
I'd like to make it look spectacular!

Sounds like a fun room theme with a lot of potential. If you have some money left over but aren't sure, I'm sure the girl would love helping to choose. I know I had a lot of ideas of my own at that age.

I sort of agree with the girl who posted above me, in that your decals might not be quite the look she is going for, but would have to see them to judge. I do think it's possible to have a design with branches, flowers and butterflies that is not too cartoon-y and little girl, but it's a fine line. Think magic and romance in wooded wonderland, not little-girl whimsy. If the design is too child-like she might not like it.
