What's the best way to wash soiled car floor mats?

Does anyone know the best way to wash soiled floor mats from a car? They are a rug like material on top and a foam rubber on the bottom to prevent slippage. Can I just throw them in a washing machine with regular detergent w/ bleach (such as Tide), or will that end up damaging them destroy the material? I really don't want to destroy the mats by washing them improperly because they are original BMW floor mats and are quite durable. Thanks.
I'm going to try Woolite, as I hear it does a great job on carpet and rug material. I'll see if that works.

Washing floor mats is not a task, but you can tear them apart real quick if you're not careful. A washing machine is not a good idea. All you need to do is take a scrub brush to them and some soapy water. If they are really stained up use a multipurpose degreaser (Any parts store carries it) or carpet cleaner. Always test chemicals in an inconspicuous place before using it on the whole item. Some chemicals will take color and leave you with a bigger mess then what you had when you started. Don't forget to rinse them out real good so the chemical does stand still in your carpets, and let them dry out before you put them back or they will mold and mildew.
