What is the funniest/weirdest incident you have ever had with dining out at a restaurant?

i was vacationing in Mombasa one time and we went to a beachside dive restaurant. the waiter suggested lemon crusted octopus with a side of palm wine. we agreed...

i swear to all things holy after we ordered the octopus , he ran out shirtless and dived into the sea and five minutes later came out holding an octopus which he proceeded to take into the kitchen...

15 min later we had lemon crusted octopus...!

We took my mother out to an outdoor seafood restaurant for Mother's day. The seagulls were pestering us and my mother complained that the tarter sauce tasted "gritty." As the waiter approached us with a bottle of Tartar Sauce, my mother realized that the "tartar sauce" on her fish was really seagull poop.

can anyone give me information on wine dumb waiters that lead to seller. when/ why would they be in home?

Old home in indiana has wine dumb waiter in kitchen, and there are shelves from the kitchen to the butlers pantery, just trying to find out history on a home im thinking about buying, The house was built at least in the 1900 maybe 1800s they are unsure when it was built.

Your question specifies a Wine dumb waiter - there were different types of dumb waiters. Dumb waiters were invented to replace a REAL butler, who had ears and could hear everything that was said when meals were served. In the late 1700's the desire for privacy overcame the desire for service.

Wine dumb waiters went down to the wine cellar in the basement, allowing the REAL butler to choose the wine (part of his job description) and place into into the dumb waiter - the host would then serve the wine to his guests allowing complete privacy for the meal.

The Victorians usually had their kitchens in the basement and service dumb waiters were installed to allow the food to reach the table while still warm.

Another type of dumb waiters was a multi-level table where food dishes could be put prior to the dinner allowing the host to server all the food for the meal to insure privacy. A host had to accept cold food if he opted for this type of dumb waiter.
