Why is the electric fireplace remote not working?

We have a DBL-2000 electric fireplace. It worked just fine up until a couple days ago before we shut the main breaker switch off to the home so we could replace a light ceiling fixture.
After putting the power back on the fireplace will not respond to the remote. The fireplace works just fine when we use the manual control buttons.

Batteries in the remote are fine. Even the red light comes on when I press the power button on the remote. All I get though is a "beep" but no activity in the fireplace. I tried the manufacturer but they were not much help.

Is there a calibrating thing that I need to do to reset something?

Aim the remote at the fire and keep the button to turn on the fire pressed down, and it might re calibrate itself.
