I got "caught steeling" $5 worth of merchandise, what next?

i went to the mall earlier with my friend today and i went to JCpenny and bought a facial brush which cost $5 and then a few hours later i returned to jcpenny to get the same brush in a different color, i started walking and without realizing i had left the store, i was distracted cuz i was talking to my friend, when i realized i was walking out with the brush i turned around to put it back in the store, but as i turned around a Loss Prevention detective was there and she escorted me into a room, i tried to explain it was all a misunderstanding but she didn't care and she made me sign papers(one was about not going back into the store and the other was about a civil fine) and she got my personal information off of my ID, and then she let me go, she said i was lucky cuz she didn't call the cops. I'm 17 and i live in California, do you think they will fine me? and if so how much? what should i do now? what will happen?

First of all, don't ever sign anything in the future. It doesn't matter if they tell you to do so. Just ask for an attorney.

Try to talk to the owner of the store via phone prior to the court meeting. Set up a date to meet and explain the entire thing from your point of view. If they are not receptive, you'll probably get called to court, but don't worry. In fact, relax. Plead innocent. Just go looking really clean cut and nice. When you get to judge, just explain everything rationally. Tell the judge that you weren't paying attention and that you apologize. Let him know that you care too much about your future to much to do something that would endanger it. Maybe bring an older upstanding character witness in your defense.

Tell the judge you sincerely apologize for the misunderstanding and that you tried to do the right thing, and unfortunately doing the right thing was what caused the misunderstanding. Explain that you tried to explain your situation to the loss prevention lady who was just doing her job, but that she wasn't receptive at the time. Offer an apology to the store owner and the court for wasting everyone's time and promise to be more aware of your surroundings in the future. Say all of this in the prescribed order, and please pay more attention next time. You'll be fine and get off with a warning.

Like I said, dress professional, relax, and be calm and assertive.

How to clean corroded (?) stainless steel sign?

I have a store sign that has stainless steel or some other type of metal letters. I'm not sure because I didn't buy the sign. They are brushed and they seem to be a bit corroded or discolored on some of the areas. I would like to clean it and make them all one color again, but I'm not sure how to do that.

Does anyone have suggestions? The corrosion isn't bad, it's just a bit discolored, darker looking than the rest of the letters. The sign is about 10 years old.

if it is stainless then use a soft kitchen scourer and baby oil it removes the build up of grime works exact same on kitchen appliances
