antiques Silver Candle Sticks Plastic inserts?

I was given a set of silver candleabra's for christmas. They are vintage if not antique. In each candle holder they had a small plastic insert to hold the taper candle, but they are all missing but one. Does anyone know where i can by these inserts? The holders are too large to hold candles without these inserts

if you can't get them use a plastic tip that goes on the legs of chairs etc. you may have to trim them

help! cleaning brass, not sure what I did?

ok I was cleaning some brass candle holders, they were REALLY old like early 1900's so they were dull and lackluster. so here's what I did...

-first I put them in near boiling water to remove the wax buildup, then while the wax was still soft I wiped them off thoroughly.

-after that I dried them off, then went onto cleaning/polishing. I started using bartenders to get rid of the buildup, but I noticed as I was doing this a blackish gray film started coming off, I assumed it was just dirt and oil so I kept going, but now that its done the brass doesn't look right, its really light colored like a yellowish sterling silver. Not at all how I thought it should look like a gold color. Did I take off the finish? and if so how can I put it back?

Use a magnet to determine if you are working with brass or a brass-plated object. Magnets do not stick to solid brass.
Use ketchup for an inexpensive way to clean brass. The vinegar and salt in the ketchup do a surprisingly terrific job!
Keep brass clean with regular dusting with a soft cloth.
Be careful cleaning brass antiques. Taking off the aged appearance may make it more aesthetically pleasing to you, but it could also devalue the piece for collectors.
Beware abrasive cleaners, as they can scratch brass easily.
Don't apply too much brass polish, as it could lead to discoloration.
Avoid touching brass as much as possible, because the oil in your skin will make the brass tarnish faster and look dirtier.

Biedermann amp; Sons HJ565 Glass Hearts Candle Holders $35.88 More than 800 years ago the village of Schwaebisch Gmuend was founded by the Kings of Staufen who were responsible for settling this region known for its artisans specializing in the production of gold silver and brass jewelry as well as decorative ornaments. These works of art were shipped to markets in Italy and Western Europe. The tradition in metal arts survives today in this medieval walled town located near Stuttgart Germany. For generations families have engaged in ornament cutting designing their own unique decorations to give friends and relatives as gifts during the holiday season. The Biedermanns originated the creation of a single Christmas ornament commemorating each year drawing on the talent from this region.
